Connect Contact Form 7 to MailerLite
Connect Contact Form 7 to MailerLite and every form submission becomes a subscriber in the group you choose. The free ClickSyncr for MailerLite plugin adds its own tab to the Contact Form 7 editor: paste an API key, pick a group, map your fields, save. No code and about two minutes per form.
Before you begin
You need three things: the ClickSyncr for MailerLite plugin activated, Contact Form 7 active, and a MailerLite account (the free tier is fine, with permission to create an API token). Contact Form 7 stores the API key per form, right inside the form editor.
Get your MailerLite API key
- Log in to MailerLite and go to Integrations → API (dashboard.mailerlite.com/integrations/api).
- Generate a new token and give it a recognisable name such as
WordPress ClickSyncr. - Copy it immediately: MailerLite shows the full token only once. If you lose it, generate another.
Treat the token like a password. Anyone holding it can read and modify your MailerLite subscribers.
Contact Form 7 setup, step by step
- Open your form and switch to the ClickSyncr MailerLite tab. From Contact → Contact Forms, open a form. The plugin adds its own tab next to Form, Mail, Messages and Additional Settings. You can also jump straight there with
/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpcf7&post=YOUR_FORM_ID&active-tab=clicksyncr-ml-panel.
The ClickSyncr MailerLite tab, added to the Contact Form 7 editor. - Paste your API key and connect. Additionally, the connect button turns green and reads Synced once the key is verified. The eye icon reveals the key if you need to check it.
A verified MailerLite API key: masked value, reveal toggle, and the green Synced state. - Choose the MailerLite group. Moreover, the dropdown fills with every group in your account and shows each one’s subscriber count. Use Refresh Groups after creating a group in MailerLite.

All nine MailerLite fields mapped to Contact Form 7 tags. - Optional: set a consent field. Also, choose a checkbox, acceptance or radio field to drive opt-in. Ticked adds the subscriber as Active; unticked adds them as Unconfirmed. Leave it on None to add everyone as Active.

The nine MailerLite fields
Every builder maps the same nine standard MailerLite fields, and any custom fields in your account appear in the list automatically. Only Email is mandatory; an unmapped field is simply skipped and never overwrites existing subscriber data with a blank value. If MailerLite rejects one value’s type, that single field is dropped and the subscriber still syncs.

Verify the sync
Submit the form on the front end (not the admin preview) with a test address you can recognise, filling every mapped field. In MailerLite, open Subscribers and confirm the subscriber exists, sits in the group you selected, and carries the mapped values. That one minute catches almost every configuration mistake.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause and fix |
|---|---|
| The group dropdown is empty | The key is missing, mistyped, or was revoked in MailerLite. Re-paste it and reconnect. A key with a trailing space is the classic culprit. |
| Submissions do not appear in MailerLite | Nine times out of ten the Email field is not mapped. It is the one required mapping. Fix it, then submit a fresh test. |
| A new MailerLite group is not listed | The group list is cached for a few minutes. Click Refresh Groups in the tab. |
| Changing the key did not take effect everywhere | Contact Form 7 stores a key per form, so update each form that syncs. |
| The subscriber syncs but a field is empty | Either that field is unmapped, or it was blank on the submission. Empty values are skipped so they never wipe existing MailerLite data. |
| One field never arrives, the rest do | MailerLite rejected that value’s type, for example letters in a number field. The plugin drops just the offending field and syncs the rest. |
Does each Contact Form 7 form need its own key?
Each form stores its own key and mapping, so different forms can even feed different MailerLite accounts. Most sites paste the same key into each form.
Can Contact Form 7 add subscribers with opt-in consent?
Yes. Point the consent control at an acceptance or checkbox field and only ticked submissions arrive as Active subscribers; unticked ones are stored in MailerLite as Unconfirmed.
